Shopping, Services and Restaurants
The mountain communities offer several shopping areas for groceries, clothing, gifts, antiques, hardware, specialty shops, etc. Several major regional malls are a short drive to the western suburbs of Denver. Factory outlet malls are located in Castle Rock (approx. 45 minutes southeast of Conifer) and Silverthorne (approx. 1 hr. west of Evergreen). There are many, many area restaurants from fast food (McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, etc.) to elegant fine dining. It’s fun to explore all the possibilities!

Recreation
Evergreen Lake offers fishing and boating in the summer and ice skating in the winter. A hiking trail surrounds the lake and waterfall. The Lake House is owned and operated by the Evergreen Recreation District and was completed in 1993. It’s a 5,000 sq. ft. log and stone facility used for boat rentals and ice skating warming house and can be rented for private parties and public groups.

Golf courses include Hiwan Country Club (private) and Evergreen Public Golf Course (next to Evergreen Lake). Hiwan Country Club also offers dining, swimming and tennis.

Evergreen Fitness and Racquet Club offers handball and racquetball, weight room, exercise programs, 2 running tracks, pool, indoor tennis, sauna, and steamroom. The Evergreen Recreation Center is open to the public – the facilities include indoor heated swimming pool with six lanes, a gymnastics gymnasium, a full-size gymnasium, a weight room, two racquetball courts, exercise room, outside tennis courts, dance studio, martial arts studio, locker and shower facilities, and several rooms for classes and meetings. There is also a North Evergreen recreation center that features a climbing wall.

Open Space Parks offer many recreational opportunities. Although virtually every backyard is a mini-park, there are numerous designated parks and open space areas set aside for the enjoyment of the residents and visitors alike. Pike and Arapahoe National forest land is nearby. Picnicking, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, backpacking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, skiing, dog sledding are just some of the activities enjoyed here. Dirt bikes and snowmobiles are allowed in some areas.

Skiing and Boarding The closest ski area, Loveland is just 45 minutes from Evergreen. Another 15-20 minutes and you’re at Keystone, Copper Mountain and Breckenridge. Another 20 minutes over Vail pass, and you’re at Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek. We’re spoiled with the best skiing and snow boarding in the country at our back door!

Arts and Music
Talent blooms like wildflowers in the mountain communities. The very nature of the sights and sounds (or solitude) of the area brings out the best of resident artists, thespians, singers and musicians. These talents are supported by local galleries, artists associations, chorales, orchestras, and theater groups. There is also a movie theatre in North Evergreen.

Community Events – Clubs and Organizations
Area businesses and organizations plan a full calendar of events –a few highlights include the Evergreen Rodeo and parade, Summerfest and Winterfest arts and crafts shows, Conifer Christmas Parade, Conifair and the Mountain Rendezvous.

There is an extensive list of clubs and organizations for all mountain communities. There are support groups, scout troops, sports groups, horse groups, garden clubs, newcomers clubs, Rotary clubs, Kiwanis clubs, etc., etc…..

Other
Mountain residents are environmentally aware and are very protective of the wildlife that abounds here. Residents also take pride in the small town atmosphere. Newcomers can be sure that they’ll never be bored- there is so much to do, summer and winter. And if your feeling the draw of big city amenities – symphony, professional sports, mall shopping – Denver is just minutes away! It’s the best of both worlds!
